Recently, a viral video caused the ire of Malaysians, showing an elderly vendor throwing petai or stink beans onto the street in protest of Port Dickson Municipal Council (MPPD) enforcement officers telling him to stop trading at a parking lot.

MPPD officials and the Sri Tanjung assemblyperson then visited the vendor, known as Pak Cik Noor, at his home to resolve the issue amicably by granting him a temporary license and compensating him for his losses via a donation from Port Dickson Member of Parliament (MP) and Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Utama Haji Aminuddin Harun.

The Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar has since addressed the incident, urging the public not to hastily judge MPPD but instead refer to the chronology of events as a whole.

He asserted that the viral video, which was edited to only show the later parts of the incident, had caused the public to have a bad perception of the local authority.

Aminuddin was quoted by Sinar Harian as saying,

“I hope that the incident can be viewed fully from the start, not just the latter parts, as it could affect those who feel they’re being slandered.

“We admit there was an issue but the incident started from complaints about conducting business in front of a shop, which shouldn’t happen.”

The Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar added that maybe due to fasting and being in a state of anger, Malaysians unfairly judged the local authority. Accordingly, Aminuddin advised the public to be fair and not issue judgement without checking properly first.

He added that it’s unfair to blame the local authority for the issue as they were only performing their duties, stressing,

“Don’t blame those who were only doing their job, it’s unfair to blame everything on the local authority,”

Regardless, the Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar said that he was grateful that the issue had been amicably resolved and thanked the Sri Tanjung assemblyperson Dr Rajasekaran and MPPD for their swift action.
