It is quite a miracle when you can persuade 15,000 people not to eat any food for 30 hours, and it probably takes a greater cause for that to happen.

Well, that’s exactly what took place on Saturday (July 21) where 15,000 Malaysians from all over the country gathered at Stadium Malawati for the World Vision Malaysia’s 30-Hour-Famine Countdown, reported The Star.

About half the crowd participated in the fast at 180 Do-It-Yourself (DIY) camps spread all across the nation while others made their way to Stadium Malawati for the final hours of the countdown.

Their efforts certainly paid off as they managed to raise a whopping RM2.2 million to help impoverished children and communities all over the world. Good job, guys!

Daniel Boey, World Vision Malaysia CEO was encouraged and humbled by the support Malaysians showed towards the cause, especially the younger generation.

“Their passion and motivation to reach out and help others, as well as their eagerness to learn more about the key issues affecting the vulnerable, is truly uplifting,” he said.

The highlight of the event was a special appearance by G.E.M., Hong Kong-based singer-songwriter who served as the 30-Hour Famine Ambassador 2018.

“I salute all the participants of the event. They are changing lives of children and communities in need,” she said.

The first 30-Hour-Famine Countdown was held in 1997, and in 2018, more than RM32 million was raised for community development projects and emergency responses in more than 18 countries.

These funds will be used to fight against food insecurity and malnutrition issues in India, Lesotho, Myanmar and rural Malaysia, while the challenged communities in Sabah will be provided with education, training and healthcare awareness programmes.

Meanwhile, marginalised children will be given access to quality education.

If you would like to contribute to the cause, you can still do so by 1) logging on to www.30hourfamine.my or 2) calling World Vision Malaysia at (603) 7880 6414.

Wow! Congrats to the 15,000 Malaysians who fasted 30 hours for such a good cause! It couldn’t have been easy, but they did it. #respek
