You’ve probably seen more than one photo of Datuk Seri Najib Razak just after he was found guilty of seven charges in the SRC trial on 28th July while the authorities escorted him through the crowds of people that came to show their support.
You might’ve also noticed that the mask Najib had over his mouth and nose is kind of unusual and not the type you often see people wearing.
By now, I’m pretty sure you’re wondering what kind of face mask this is and how much it costs.
Well, this particular disposable face mask is a product from a company called Xeralife that sells high quality masks that claim to absorb and decompose organic contaminants including viruses, bacteria, fungi, mold as well as odors and Volatile organic compounds (VOC).
A pack of three costs RM51 on Shopee while the same pack costs RM59 on Lazada. This means one mask can cost up to RM20!
On the Xeralife website, they claim that the benefits of this mask include:
- Prevents infection
- Avoids germ cross-contamination
- Alleviates allergy and respiratory infections
- Protects against present and future flu pandemics
- Avoids the use of harmful chemicals
- Eliminates odors
The mask is also 4-ply with a nylon and Polypropylene (PP) band.
- Layer 1: Spunbound fabric
- Layer 2: Xeralife filter
- Layer 3: Meltblow fabric (PET)
- Layer 4: Thermal bonded fabric Polypropylene (PP)
“In a time of flu pandemics, you want to have the best protection available. Xeralife medical grade, surgical masks have proven their worth from hospital operating rooms to every day use in public,” they said.
“With a Bacterial Filtration Efficiency (BFE) of 99% compared to other three ply and molded face masks with BFE ratings of 85% to 92%, Xeralife surgical masks has been proven by the Biomedical Science Association (BMSA) in Japan to be effective against all forms of Influenza, including Avian flu and Swine flu.”
This seems like a good and high quality mask, but let’s face it, most of us can’t afford to spend RM59 on masks twice a week. But perhaps when in prison, the normal masks will have to do.
