1.Balding
First up in the starter pack is a balding dad…We can’t help that this phenomenon is just something a lot of our dads’ face and if your father isn’t balding then consider himself extremely fortunate! Maybe the stress caused from raising a family is what makes them loose hair.
Whatever the case though our dads proudly rock the receding hairline, showcasing their wisdom and maturity accumulated over the years. They may try various remedies in hopes of regaining their luscious locks, from onion juice to hair loss powder/fibers, but it’s just something that comes with becoming a dad!
2. Bulging Stomach
Their love for roti canai, nasi, and teh tarik is evident in their glorious bellies. They are walking testaments to the Malaysian cuisine and their tummies are a constant reminder of the many delicious food adventures! We’re not complaining though, this makes hugging our dads all the more comforting.
3. Flip Phone Case
Dads must protect their devices at all costs! They deem themselves as to know how to keep their gadgets and tools alike very well, after all their hard earned money was spent on buying the brand new “advanced” phone ok! So of course lah must protect it at all costs.
This is probably why many of our dads love opting to use the ever so famous flip phone case. Sure, it looks old-fashioned but it definitely keeps the scratches away from the phone’s screen. As we all know, dads are all about practicality. In terms of style? Not so much.
4. Signature Slipper/Sandals
The iconic footwear choice of our dads—the slipper. If you’re dad is trying to level up a bit then it’s these types of sandals.
No matter the occasion, they rock their slippers with pride, from grocery shopping to attending weddings. Comfort reigns supreme!
5. Singlet
The go-to attire for our dads, especially during lounging around the house on weekends. This is the staple choice of clothing when at home, a timeless piece of fashion passed down for many generations. The white singlet keeps our dads cool while also saying “I’m the man of the house”.
Our list would not be complete if we didn’t include this in! We love how our dads are unapologetically wear this staple piece whenever they get the chance to.
6. Polo Shirt
When our dads want to impress, they turn to the classic polo shirt. Whether it’s for a family gathering or a casual hangout, you can bet they’ll choose a vibrant polo shirt to showcase their “personal style”.
Sometimes to our horror though they’ll even try to pop the collar up thinking that they look hip and cool. As much as we love our dads, supporting them means telling them the honest truth – that putting up the collar of their basic polo shirt makes them look kind of cringe. Sorry dads!
7. Caps
Probably due to their balding and receding hairlines, our dads become big fans of wearing caps. They sport them in various colors, styles and not to mention the random brands they get them from.
They wear it with a sense of swag, shielding their eyes from the glaring Malaysian sun. This quirk is probably the one we benefit from the most, with endless choices of caps for us to steal borrow. Thanks dad!
8. Spam Good Morning Messages
This is a classic Asian dad characteristic! Rise and shine to an avalanche of good morning messages flooding your phone from your dad. With a mixture of emojis, inspirational quotes, and family updates, these messages serve as a daily dose of love and reminders to stay EXTREMELY positive.
Although most of us can agree that the messages get irritating at times, it’s no doubt that our dads send them out as a sign of care. The corny Power Point edits of these photo messages can also be entertaining.
Send him your corny good morning photo edits as well, maybe you both can have a good laugh about it!
9. Sneezes and Coughs Loudly
Last on our list is the legendary universal experience of having a dad that just has to sneeze, cough and use the bathroom loudly. Consider yourself lucky if your dad doesn’t do this.
@elisabete_w
Most of our dads possess a unique talent for sneezing or coughing with astonishing volume. Their sneezes can be heard from miles away, ensuring that everyone within earshot knows they are in the presence of a true dad.
