While many people can only dream of holidaying overseas, there is now a project underway towards taking vacations out of this world, literally.
According to the India Times, the first-ever space hotel will begin construction in 2025 and will be opened to guests in 2027.
The Gateway on The Voyager Station by The Gateway Foundation boasts luxury vacations in space where people can not only book and rent hotel suites for temporary stays but also purchase villas as vacation homes.
“You could call it a destination hotel, a low Earth orbit cruise ship, or a city in space with a spaceport. But the best way to understand this complex piece of infrastructure is to look to its namesake: The Gateway,” they shared.
The Gateway Foundation’s plan includes developing a robust space construction industry, the first artificial gravity space station and the Gateway.
“These are important first steps to colonising space and other worlds – The Gateway Foundation will connect people from all over the world so we can make this first step together.”
Besides luxury living, people can expect a world-class dining experience at the Voyager’s restaurant, a sky bar with the best views on the station and a gym and activity module.
“At night, the gym and activity module will transform into a concert venue where the biggest musicians on Earth will rock the station as it circles the planet,” they added.
Guests can experience all of this while jumping around in a 1/6th earth gravity environment.
“Don’t feel like taking the stairs? Because of the lower gravity, jump off the balcony and gently land on the level below.”
After watching numerous movies on disasters in space, we’re just not entirely sure if this will be a good idea.
