An authentic plate of pad thai would be great right about now.

How many of us miss going to our friendly neighbouring country, Thailand? From the countless delicacies to affordable shopping sprees, and beautiful islands to see; the news of being able to travel to Thailand again is something that we have all been waiting for.

Well, guess what? You might be able to do so soon!

The Thai government has recently announced on its official public relations Facebook page that they might be introducing a plan which allows the country to relax its travel restrictions for foreigners. This plan was discussed in a meeting on 24 June 2020, chaired by the Deputy Prime Minister and Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul.

According to the plan, the relaxation of travel restrictions for foreigners will be done in three phases:

  1. Short term and long term arrivals which involves guests of the Thai government, businessmen, investors, skilled workers, professionals, people with Thai family members, teachers, and students.
  2. Patients who go to Thailand to seek medical treatment.
  3. Tourists and migrant workers.

This plan will be submitted to the Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA), chaired by Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha, for consideration on 29 June 2020. Hopefully, with proper SOPs in place, Thailand will finally be able to open its borders again, parallel to the discussion that Malaysia is having with other GREEN countries to introduce a travel bubble to jump-start the tourism industry within the region.
