We’ve all had those nightmares of something crawling up the toilet bowl and biting us while we’re doing our business.

Well, for those in Piasau Jaya, Miri, this nightmare may seem more realistic now.

As reported by The New Sarawak, a gharial has been seen lurking in the drains of the Piasau Jaya housing estate.

The Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) wildlife officials have said that they are currently looking for it and have yet to find the gharial.

A gharial is a crocodilian with a thin, long snout. It is said to be at least 2m to 3m-long from the tip of it’s snout to the end of its tail.

The Piasau Jaya housing area is located across from the Bulatan Park, which has a lake. Big monsoon drains link the park to the housing area, giving animals the opportunity to hide.

Let’s all hope that the gharial is caught before it can cause any harm!
