By now you would have already seen the viral clip of a mat rempit who ran the red light and crashed into a car.
In that video, we can see a man on a motorcycle doing the “Superman” stunt – belly flat on the cushion, palms on the handlebar and legs in a straight line following the body while racing with a friend.
However, while this person was speeding and beating a red light, a Proton Persona at the intersection was making a turn and the motorcycle was unable to evade the vehicle, so the motorcycle rider crashed into the car. The other motorcyclist who was following close behind managed to narrowly swerve past the car.
According to BERNAMA, the mat rempit that crashed into a car is an 18-year-old. The accident took place at the Tun Dr. Lim Choong Eu Highway near Astaka Seagate in Bayan Lepas at about 4.30am in the morning.
According to the Barat Daya district police chief, Supt Kamarul Rizal Jenal, the teen motorcyclist died on the spot while the driver of the Proton Persona suffered injuries on his left hand.
It is said that the accident took place when it was raining and the police are looking at nearby CCTV footage along with witnesses of the crash to help with the investigations.
The body of the teen motorcyclist was sent to Hospital Pulau Pinang for an autopsy and the case will be investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
