Teachers are a gift to society considering they educate the younger generations while having to endure all kinds of behaviours from someone else’s child.

Hence, they truly deserve all the appreciation in the world.

For one teacher though, instead of receiving presents this festive season, she wanted to give out Christmas presents to her students as a way to show her love and appreciation for her students. Unfortunately, her students didn’t seem very grateful for them.

As according to The Summit Express, Kathlene Jane Mendoza, a teacher in the Philippines, had made keychains for all her students, and she was very excited to give them as Christmas gifts, but when she finally got to give out her presents, she was only met with disappointment from her students.

Kathlene said, “I prepared these keychains 2 weeks before our Christmas party. I wanted to give the students a gift as a sign of my love for them. My friend made these keychains for me. Some were wondering, why should I give them gifts when they can be a pain to deal with. But still, I wanted to give them something.”

On the day of the Christmas party, she started giving out the keychains one by one, but was thanked by only a few.

“When the Christmas party finally came, I gave them the keychains one by one. Some students said thank you, but you know what’s the most unforgettable thing they’ve said? ‘Is this the gift? We also can buy these'”, she added.

Kathlene also admitted that she felt hurt by how ungrateful her students were, as her simple gift to them was rejected so easily.

She expressed how she was hoping to be appreciated and that she probably expected too much, “And then I realised, no matter what you do for them, if they think it’s not enough; it will never be enough. You know what’s funny? I really expected that they would appreciate it but it turns out that they didn’t.”

That’s definitely no way to treat your teacher, kids!

We genuinely hope that at least some of the students appreciated Kathlene’s thoughtfulness and made sure to let her know.

We appreciate you, Kathlene!
