Being an insurance agent is a challenging profession, as your income is mostly commission-based and convincing potential clients to sign-up is easier said than done.
Accordingly, most insurance agents end up using creative ways to promote their services such as posting on social media about the importance and benefits of being insured.
However, there is a time and place for everything, and this particular agent was recently called out for his ‘tasteless’ timing to promote his insurance endeavour.
As shared by Reddit user u/Holy_Beergut on the r/Singapore subreddit, a screenshot of the Facebook post by the Singaporean insurance agent showed that he inappropriately used the recent death of his friend for self-promotion regarding his insurance gig.
In the Facebook post, the man said that he just heard the news about the death of his army friend due to cancer, leaving behind his wife and a young daughter.
He then suddenly manoeuvred into insurance, saying that he hoped that the deceased has previously purchased enough life insurance to sustain his family for the rough times ahead.
Afterwards, he went all out to self-promote his insurance endeavour, saying,
“I will make it a point to ensure that my friends, relatives and loves ones will be able to do so. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me for any financial planning for yourself and your family to ensure they are adequately covered. Thank you.”
The screenshot was posted by u/Holy_Beergut with the title, “Using your army buddy’s passing to sell insurance, real classy there”.
In the comments, the original poster added that the Facebook post was from one of his acquaintances during his time in Singapore National Service.
The original poster added that he replied to the insurance agent’s post and called him out on how tasteless the post was. However, the insurance agent allegedly deleted the reply without responding.
In the Reddit post’s comments section, many netizens criticised the insurance agent for such a desperate and inappropriate self-promotion.
One commenter sarcastically said that the man is the “least desperate insurance agent” while another said that “God took the wrong buddy”. Besides that, there are also a couple of comments who thanked the original poster for calling the insurance agent’s tasteless action.
