Singaporeans have always had a bad reputation in Malaysia, especially when it comes to their behaviour on our roads.

Case in point, the BMW Car Club Singapore is now coming under fire for taking up the entire Penang Bridge with their convoy.

The We are Malaysians Facebook page recently shared a video of the convoy, where the car club can clearly be seen taking up not just the 2 lanes on the bridge, but also the emergency lane.

We are Malaysians wrote, “BMW Car Club Singapore, Mega Meet at Penang. Blocking the whole bridge, causing traffic jam of 1 hour plus plus.”

Many condemned the car club’s actions while calling for the authorities to take action against them.

“The law is the law. We can’t just let them off like this. They should have manners when coming into other people’s homes.”

The Seberang Perai Selatan Police Headquarters shared in a statement that they have summoned the group.

“The police have received a report on this incident and an investigation paper has been opened under the Traffic Act 1959 under Section 16(1) LN 166/59 for obstruction of traffic. On June 11, 2023, at 12:10am, all the drivers involved were present at the Seberang Perai Selatan Police Headquarters and have been summoned,” they informed.

The BMW Car Club Singapore has also apologised for their actions.

We sincerely apologise and acknowledge a mistake that was made on our part and to reassure everyone of our unwavering commitment to cooperate with the local authorities.”

“We have taken full responsibility for the recent oversight by working closely with the local authorities as soon as we heard of the news. Rest assured that we have rectified the situation and the investigation is now closed.”

They also added that they will improve and are actively reviewing their plans to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
