It was recently announced that Hajj payments have gone up by 20% for both the B40 and M40 groups due to the rising costs for accommodation, flights, and service fees in the Holy Land.

Group Managing Director and CEO of Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) Syed Hamadah Syed Othman shared that TH has been taking steps to control costs, like locking in long-term flight contracts.

Cost for the T20 group will remain the same in 2025

At a press conference, Syed Hamadah shared that for 2025, the payment for first-time B40 group pilgrims will be RM15k, up from RM12,356 per person in 2024.

For the M40 group, first-time pilgrims will pay RM23.5k, an increase from RM19,152 in 2024.

“The payment for first-time T20 group pilgrims stays the same at RM33.3k in 2025, matching the Hajj cost for a Muassasah pilgrim in 2024,” he added.

“TH has secured long-term flight contracts despite rising fuel prices”

Syed Hamadah mentioned that Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) has managed to keep the haj cost steady at RM33.3k for Muassasah pilgrims in the 1446H/2025M season, despite rising prices.

He pointed out that 87% of the total haj cost goes towards accommodation, flights, and service charges in the Holy Land, which TH has no control over.

“To keep costs in check, TH has been securing long-term flight contracts, even with the increasing fuel prices,” he said.

TH also continues to provide Haj Financial Assistance (HAFIS) to first-time Muassasah pilgrims in the B40 and M40 groups for the 1446H/2025M season.

“It’s only mandatory for those who can afford it”

Syed Hamadah explained that for the B40 group, the Haj Financial Assistance is RM18.3k (55%), while for M40 group pilgrims, it’s RM9.8k (29%).

“The total Haj Financial Assistance for this season is expected to be around RM261 million, bringing the total over the past 25 years to more than RM2.8 billion. Since 2022, TH has been gradually reducing the assistance to match the affordability of performing the haj, as it’s only mandatory for those who can afford it,” he said.

He also mentioned that the RM1k government assistance for first-time Muassasah pilgrims in the B40 group is included in this amount.
