Muda President Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman said that celebrating another religion’s holy day, will not lessen his faith for Islam.
According to the Muar MP, attending another religion’s religious celebration has taught him a lot about people from different walks of life.
“For years I have celebrated Hungry Ghost festivals, Thaipusam, Pongal and many more. That does not make me any less of a Muslim than those out there.”
“I am not there to worship another God, but take the opportunity to celebrate what it means to be a Malaysian. All religions teach its followers to respect one another.”
Recently, MUDA was actively involved in the Thaipusam celebrations after opening up shop at Jalan Ipoh, and distributed drinks to devotees making their way to Batu Caves.
“Malaysia is a country of diversity and we are known across the globe for it.”
“Attending such celebrations allow me to develop a deeper understanding of those who come from a different background than I do.”
Previously, Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar released a statement advising Muslim to not take part in the recently concluded Thaipusam celebrations, adding that it is a religious festival specifically meant for its devotees.
