On Wednesday, a man allegedly tried to kidnap a Standard 6 pupil at a tyre shop beside SJK (C) Kwang Hwa in Penang. The suspicious man was captured by the CCTV in school.
According to Kwong Wah, the kid stayed back after school to attend extra classes. He then waited in front of the shop lot beside the school for his grandfather to pick him up.
Suddenly, a middle-aged man approached him and asked if the kid speaks Hokkien and if he was alone. After the kid said ‘yes’, the stranger immediately took the kid’s bag on the ground and walked away.
The kid had no choice but to follow the man because his school bag was with the stranger.
Once they reached the school gate, the stranger returned the school bag to the kid and asked him to stay put while he retrieves his car. Luckily, the kid was smart enough to sense that something was out of place and ran away.
The kid’s grandfather also showed up just in time to pick him up from school. Suspecting that it was a kidnap attempt, the kid’s parents quickly lodged a police report.
Since the shocking incident happened right outside the school’s compound, the school will be looking into beefing up the security to ensure the safety of the students.
Pupils were also urged to stay within school compound while waiting for parents to avoid such incident from happening again.
This close call should serve as a reminder for everyone especially the parents and pupils to be more vigilant. Stay in school kids! Literally.
