If you’re spending more than you earn, you’re likely to “suffer” every end of the month.
Despite the desire to have A LOT of fancy items, your financial status itself should be your reminder to spend within your means. In a Facebook post yesterday (October 15), DYMM Sultan Johor Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar took the time to remind all civil servants to spend within their means and avoid corruption at all costs.
In fact, Sultan Johor has another reminder for all civil servants in the state to ensure they’re not tainted with corruption.
“All civil servants must declare assets every year. This is one of the ways to prevent the possession of extraordinary assets.”
Fortunately, Sultan Johor also took into account the tough life and considered it from the civil servants’ perspective by highlighting the severely low pay, and asked the state government to do something about it.
“The government can review the salaries of a few civil servants which are too low. This can also be a factor in the stress of life, especially in big cities.”
Live and spend within your means, we’re watching you
Sultan Johor said that the Chief of Police, Tan Sri Razarudin Husain also raised the same issue and assured that the PDRM will not compromise any officer and member involved in abuse of power or acts of corruption. The involvement of some officers in corruption has tarnished the organisation’s image, and Sultan Johor wants to avoid that.
“Public servants in this state must maintain their high integrity to retain the public’s trusts.”
At the end of his post, Sultan Johor reminds all public servants to live and spend within their means and if they’re living luxury lives contributed by corruption, they will not escape the authorities’ investigations.
“You are being watched,” Sultan Johor reminded.
Of course, this reminder does not just apply to the civil servants. We should learn to manage our finances and avoid splurging our hard-earned money and wants instead of needs.
