The recent political state of our country is what’s racing through all of our minds right now as we refresh our phones every two minutes waiting for an update. While this happens, some of us may have forgotten the major virus outbreak that’s still upon us. A recent study showed that the political situation could lead to an increase in the Covid-19 outbreak.

According to Malay Mail, research unit Fitch Solutions has warned that the current political downfall will directly impact Malaysia’s ability to react to any new developments in the Covid-19 outbreak. It doesn’t help that currently we also don’t have a Health Minister. Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad who was commended by many for the way KKM handled the outbreak resigned yesterday after making a final update on the outbreak.

The now-dissolved Pakatan Harapan(PH) government was supposed to announce an economic stimulus package in March to improve on the economic damages posed by the coronavirus outbreak.

“Our core view is for the formation of a new government to proceed, but in either case, the country is left without much needed leadership amid a slowing economy that must deal with the global outbreak of Covid-19.”

It’s ironic and ultimately predictable that a fight for the power over the people hurts said people the most. We were having such a good track record handling the outbreak but what happens now is anyone’s guess. In the meantime, we’ve still got to continue doing what we do before and maintain our personal hygiene and avoid any demonstrations if possible.
