Students Made To Sit On The Floor While Teachers Get VVIP Treatment At School Event

Malaysia leads the world in power distance – a degree to which the less powerful member of a society accept a hierarchical order in which everybody has a place.

From giving way to their motorcade or denied usage because some things are ‘VVIP use only’, this incident is an example of power distance in action.

Taking place during a Teacher’s Day event, this school made students sit on the canteen floor to eat, while teachers sat on decorated chairs and tables.

Taking to social media, this netizen wrote: “It is inappropriate for kids to sit on the floor, where it is highly unhygienic.”

“All of this is happening, while VIPs are sitting in their designated tents, oblivious to the fact that kids are made to eat on dirty floors.”

“Even if the floors are clean, when you do not instruct kids to take of their shoes, even clean floors will become dirty again.”

“Yes. It is unfair for these kids to get their own designated, beautiful tables, but at least make it a bit more proper than this.”

We can only hope that incidences like this will not repeat itself in the future.

So long as power distance, remains the order of the day, expect things like this to happen from time to time.
