Yesterday (30 October 2018), the entire nation was shocked when they learnt that the Petronas Home Delivery Gas (GPHD) prices will increase from November 2018 onwards. Many residents were puzzled by the hike in the delivery prices because it came without a proper reason.
According to Sinar Harian, Petronas Dagangan Berhad (PDB) released a circular to every Petronas gas distributor about the price hike for GPHD. The new prices of GPHD are as mentioned below:
- RM31 for 12kg
- RM35 for 14kg
The circular wrote that the new price for GPHD will take effect on Thursday (1 November 2018) for Peninsular Malaysia. In case you aren’t aware, the previous prices were RM26 for 12kg and RM29.80 for 14kg. The prices have increased by at least RM5.
However, prices for gas cylinders that are picked up by the customers themselves will remain the same and in line with government-controlled prices, which are RM22.80 for 12kg and RM26.60 for 14kg.
After the photo of the circular went viral, Putrajaya is now demanding an explanation from Petronas for the increased prices. A source told The Malay Mail that Putrajaya is looking for answers for the unreasonable increase in delivery charges as there has been no explanation from them.
The source was quoted as saying,
“Yes, it is confirmed true. The price of gas remains. It’s just the delivery cost which increased a lot. The ministry is getting an explanation from Petronas.”
The report further wrote that the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry is expected to release a statement regarding this matter by today (31 October 2018). That said, the prices of gas cylinders still remain unchanged on Petronas’ official website.
It looks like we will have to wait for a statement from the ministry for an explanation regarding the hike in delivery prices.
