Just like how it’s our Merdeka month, Singapore is also celebrating their Independence in August, with flags posted on every corner just like in Malaysia.
But there’s one thing that’s different about Singapore from Malaysia. It’s allegedly against the law for Singaporeans to display flags of other countries!
The SG Daily TikTok page recently showcased a video from a HDB flat block in Yishun Central, Singapore, where 1 Malaysia flag was displayed alongside Singapore flags.
The SG Daily wrote, “Malaysia boleh.”
No, Malaysia tak boleh.
While the flag doesn’t seem out of place for us Malaysians considering our close proximity and the amount of Malaysians working in Singapore, the move apparently goes against Singapore’s law as it is illegal to display foreign flags there publicly.
While some Singaporeans didn’t have a problem with it, many have since shared their anger and called for the flag to be taken down.

With all of that being said, what do you think about Malaysia’s and Singapore’s flags being displayed together during our shared Independence month?
