NCIS, Law and Order and many more shows just like it can never be close to the real deal when it comes to crime scenes.
However, according to this forensic worker based in Singapore, the reality seems way worse, likening the smell to old sambal ikan bilis.
As a post-trauma cleaner, here is what this Forensic has to say.
“There will always be a smell. It is a smell that is very familiar. It smells like sambal, which has dried squid or anchovies, but it depends on how long the body has decomposed,” they shared.
“If it is within one or two days, it will smell fishy, the longer it takes, the worse the smell. But it is quite mild.”
It is not only the smell as honesty on the job is also a test for these post-trauma cleaners.
“Honesty is also part of the job. Since we are the first to enter the home. Family members tend to stay away.”
“As we enter, at times we will find belongings such as money, luxury goods, gold, diamonds, watches etc. If we take it no one will know. So it is a test to our honesty in carrying out the job.”
