Nowadays, it seems that new cosmetic and skincare brands and products are popping up like never before due to the high demand in beauty related products.
However, what is important is that such products go through the necessary clinical tests and obtain official certifications to ensure that it’s safe for the public to use.
Recently, the founder of a local cosmetics brand found herself in the spotlight after she had falsely claimed that her products were currently in the midst of testing.
“Our product is in the process of being tested by SIRIM.”
In a post which was shared on her Facebook, she wrote, “Back to back work. Hard work that is worth it. We fight (and) we stand for our beloved brand.”
She went on to explain that its hard to get an official certification by the Standard and Industrial Research Institute of Malaysia (SIRIM).
“In the final report, we will reveal that everything is fully tested and follow the standard procedures,” she said.
She then went on to condemn those who questioned the legitimacy of her brand and their practices.
“People normally know that if its (certified by) SIRIM, it means that it’s safe to apply. Now, one of our products is in the process of being tested, and we’re here to meet the head of the research center & team to get clarity on the process and progress on that.”
Stop confusing people!
Following the post by the local cosmetic brand owner, SIRIM themselves have commented on her post. In their response, SIRIM emphasised that they have never conducted any testing on the products of her brand.
“For any questions regarding cosmetic product testing, please contact kosmetik@sirim.my,” they said.
Meanwhile, in their very own post, SIRIM urged manufacturers and suppliers of cosmetic products to make sure that the product has undergone the recommended testing so that the product is safe and effective before use.
They also urged local brands to stop spreading misinformation and to not confuse or mislead the public.
So far the cosmetics entrepreneur has not issued any explanation regarding the viral issue involving her product.
