Recently, a video of a Honda Vezel (Singapore’s version of the Honda HR-V) driving into a wading pool at The Hillside condominium in Upper Bukit Timah, Singapore has gone viral on social media. As it turned out, the man behind the wheels of the vehicle was an e-hailing driver dropping off a passenger at the condominium, but he somehow inexplicably ended up driving his car into the swimming pool.

As reported by The Straits Times, the incident happened on Tuesday (28 February 2023) and there were two individuals inside the vehicle when it veered into the swimming pool – a man, which is the Gojek driver and his passenger, a woman who was visiting her family at the condominium. Based on CCTV footage, the driver can be seen entering the main gate of the residence and driving straight towards Block 341.

The man should’ve turned right at the first intersection but at the end of the road, the driver stopped the car before veering right into a pedestrian pathway. he then hit some potted plants to the left of the pathway’s entrance, reversed and moved forward again to hit some plants to the right side of the pathway. He then reversed again and drove into the pathway which leads to the condominium’s clubhouse entrance.

The driver then drove up to the front of the clubhouse before a security guard named Maniam approached the car. The latter then told the driver to reverse his car but the instruction was ignored.

The Gojek driver instead drove forward and then turned right into the swimming pool. With his car partially submerged in the pool, the driver ran out of the car, while the passenger exited the vehicle herself. The driver then waited at the clubhouse where he told another security guard, Ragu that he is a Gojek e-hailing driver. Ragu then called the police, which arrived shortly after.

Following the incident, the management of The Hillside condominium said that it will be writing to Gojek to “verify if the driver is indeed a Gojek driver” and will be claiming damages suffered from the incident.
