Malaysia and Singapore’s versions of English are truly unique. If someone isn’t familiar with the local accent and slang, then it can be quite a challenge to understand what we’re saying.
Take for example, the confusion in Crazy Eyes (Uzo Aduba) from season 5 of Orange is the New Black.
Orange is the New Black is a television series on Netflix and the latest season will be out on June 9, 2017, Mothership reported.
However, an Ah Lian character played by Michelle Chong has been making waves on social media. A teaser video of the hilarious Singaporean character was released by Netflix on Facebook and locals can’t stop laughing.
The video was titled, ‘Ah Lian in Litchfield’ and showcased Michelle dressed in an orange prisoner’s outfit, complete with on-point winged eyeliner and pale pink lipstick.
In that scene, Crazy Eyes goes up to the Ah Lian and strikes up a conversation with her about Mexican food, and Michelle’s replies are just too hilarious!
Funnily enough, the subtitles and Michelle’s verbal responses completely don’t tally. When she was complimenting Crazy Eyes’ hair, she said,
“Wah, your hair sibeh champion ah.”
However, the subtitles read, “Your hair’s really awesome.”
Besides, she even used the all-time typical Singaporean catchphrase ‘Abuden’. Singlish FTW!
Unfortunately, that video was merely for promotional purposes and there isn’t actually a new Ah Lian character in the TV series. Cheh…

Many locals went crazy over Michelle’s appearance in this short video. Many loved it and were excited to watch the show while others weren’t too happy about it. Why tho????
I guess there’s just no pleasing everyone!
