Singapore has recently seen another spike in Covid-19 cases.

On 4 October, a number of 2,475 Covid-19 cases were reported in Singapore where 15 of them were imported, as reported by Today.

However, the discussion between the Republic of Singapore and Malaysia on cross-border travel is expected to go on despite the surge of cases. Johor Menteri Besar Hasni Mohammad has assured that both nations are taking precautionary steps, which include Singapore providing every household with a Covid-19 test kit, as well as mulling on the 3rd Covid-19 vaccination dose.

Dr Ir Hasni Mohammad

“The increase in Covid-19 cases in Singapore is not seen as an obstacle to our effort to discuss about reopening the borders,” he said in a press conference held in Johor Bahru and convinced the public that all precautions are being done in order to keep the discussion going.

According to Healtiyer, prior to furthering the talks with Singapore, he said that the Ministry of Health (MOH), which serves as a secretariat to the senior minister line-up, will come up with a date for the SOPs to be presented and discussed.

In the meantime, Prime Minister Dato Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob had also informed Hasni to proceed with the discussions with Singapore on cross-border travel, particularly for the Malaysians who commute there for work purposes, as reported by BERNAMA.
