While not all Malaysian celebrities have publicly spoken out about the genocide in Gaza, one Malaysian influencer has responded to backlash over her silence, especially after Malaysian activists aboard the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) went missing en route to the Gaza coastline.
Ameera Khan recently faced criticism not only for her lack of response to the Gaza crisis, but also for promoting brands allegedly linked to Israel through her social media posts.

Despite her silence, Ameera assured Malaysians that it did not equate to neutrality.
“My work does not reflect my stance on humanity, and it doesn’t change what I believe in, or who I stand with.”
Ameera also expressed that she intended to do more, but at the time of posting, she could only pray for those aboard the Sumud Flotilla. All 23 Malaysians who were illegally detained by Israeli forces have since been rescued, and according to the Malaysian government, they are expected to return to the country within days.

As of last night (4 October), the Malaysian activists were reported safe at Istanbul Airport in Turkey, and were expected to undergo medical checkups before their return.
Regarding her career, Ameera reminded others that her professional choices should not be mistaken for indifference.
“My belief and my humanity stand with Palestine, always. Free Palestine, always.”

In another Instagram Story posted last night, Ameera also reminded followers that those affiliated with certain brands are doing their best to stand with what’s right.
“We also have responsibilities and commitments to fulfill.”
