The Chairman of Persatuan Pengguna Semboyan Malaysia (PPSM), Yusuf Azmi, has called on the Malaysian government to cut diplomatic ties with the United States of America.

Yusuf made the statement on 3 October while attending a large protest outside the US Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, following the illegal arrests of Malaysian activists who were aboard the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) to deliver aid to Palestinians. The flotilla was intercepted by Israeli forces, leaving the activists unable to contact the outside world.

Yusuf claimed that the American government allows inhumanity to befall the Palestinian people.

In a video statement posted on Facebook, he described American presidents, past and present, as murderers, alleging they are controlled and monopolised by the Israeli regime. He also questioned why the Malaysian government continues to cooperate with a world leader who, in his view, shows no concern for the plight of Palestinians.

“Even the Americans themselves disagree with Trump’s leadership,” he said.

While acknowledging the complexities faced by the Malaysian government, Yusuf warned that if the US government does not care about Muslims in Gaza, then a small country like Malaysia could also be vulnerable. He urged the government to work with parties that demonstrate empathy.

At the end of his video, Yusuf delivered a stern message to the governments of the United States and Israel:

“Go to h*ll, President Trump and the government of Israel. You’re lacking in empathy.”

Meanwhile, reports indicate that the detained Malaysian activists were forced to kneel with their hands tied and were denied access to food and beverages.
