If you have a passion for visual storytelling, the Prime Minister’s Department is currently seeking a Video Editor (Personel MySTEP) with a degree.
For those unfamiliar with the term, Personel MySTEP refers to a government short-term employment initiative. It is designed to provide job opportunities and practical work experience, particularly for young Malaysians entering the workforce.

Requirements and expectations
The position offers a monthly salary of RM2,300, and applicants must be Malaysian citizens aged between 18 and 30. According to a Threads post by the Prime Minister’s Department, candidates should be prepared to work in Putrajaya, Cyberjaya, or Bangi.
Flexibility is key, as the role requires a willingness to travel or work beyond standard hours when necessary. Consequently, having a valid driving licence and your own transport is essential.
This opportunity is open to both male and female candidates, particularly those eager to grow within a fast-paced, purpose-driven environment. If you enjoy working behind the camera and want your work to have a tangible impact, this could be your moment.

Public backlash over the remuneration package
As the job advertisement circulated, social media users flooded the comments section, with many arguing that the offered salary is insufficient.
One user noted that a candidate with a degree should be offered at least RM4,000, suggesting that a higher rate would motivate more qualified editors to apply.

“I was interviewed for a Content Creator position, and with a Diploma qualification, I was offered RM2,500. For a Degree, you should go higher.”
“Since you’re stingy, why not just offer RM1,700?” a user commented sarcastically.

Another user said the department should’ve just resorted to Artificial Intelligence (AI) if they didn’t have the budget.
