She filed a lawsuit against her mother
However, the daughter insisted she had every right to stay in the house, which led her to sue her 91-year-old mother and others.
Rita’s parents own a family business where her father founded a real estate company, while her mother serves as its director, as reported by Lianhe Zaobao.
Rita hasn’t worked outside the family business in 36 years and receives a monthly salary of SGD2,000 (around RM6,593), along with an additional SGD1,000 (RM3,296) in pocket money given by her mother.
After getting a divorce, she moved into her parents’ home with her son, living in an apartment unit purchased through the company.

She secretly applied to become the agent for her father
Rita applied to become the agent for her 93-year-old father, who had lost his mental capacity. However, she discovered that her father had already granted a durable power of attorney, with her brother as the appointed executor.
Rita later alleged that her brother had pressured their father into naming him as the executor and filed a lawsuit in Family Court to suspend the power of attorney. During this period, she also sought a protection order, accusing her brother of domestic violence.
According to the mother, Rita became aggressive and even tried to pressure her into signing documents without revealing their contents.

Her mother restricted the apartment to only the parents and the maids
A week before the trial, the mother passed a board resolution restricting the apartment’s residents to only the parents and three maids, prohibiting Rita from moving in.
Rita argued that she had the right to stay in the apartment, claiming there was an agreement with her parents and the company that allowed her to live there without paying rent.
However, the mother denied any such agreement, stating there was nothing to support the claim that Rita could live in the apartment indefinitely.

The High Court judge found Rita’s evidence insufficient and ultimately ruled in favour of the mother.
