For Muslims who are fasting during the holy month of Ramadan, it can be a rather trying time – especially for people who need to work long hours. It is also during this time that we can see the beauty of multi-racial Malaysians helping out other fasting peeps and showing appreciation for their hard work as well.

This 18-year-old GrabFood delivery rider, Muhamad Suhaimi Hussin, recently experienced the kindness of non-Muslims who were grateful for his hard work and showed their appreciation in a cute and simple note that touched his heart last Monday (20th May). He posted a photo of the note on his Instagram, which was subsequently uploaded on Twitter by his friend, with the caption, “Say no to racism. Even the Chinese know Malays’ hardships when fasting.”

In the photo, the note said, “Thanks for the food delivery. Happy fasting. Thanks for your hard work and excellent work.” Suhaimi told mStar that he had delivered the food to a house with a few students and a teacher. One of the Chinese boys came out to take the food and handed an envelope with the note to Suhaimi.

On his way to the lift, he read the note and was touched by their kind words. However, when he checked again, he was surprised to find that they had given him a little gift, an RM5 note, and he said that although it might not be a huge amount, he was so touched he wanted to cry as he could see that they truly appreciated him.

He said that this shows that Malaysians live together in harmony regardless of race and religion as the majority of people here are respectful towards each other. Faith in humanity restored! The post went viral with more than 15,000 retweets at time of writing and netizens who saw it were similarly touched as well. They also shared they had many understanding non-Muslim friends who would help them out when they were fasting.

Meanwhile, GrabFood told WORLD OF BUZZ that they understand that they have riders who are fasting and encourage people to order their food before 5pm with their BokBok campaign so that their riders can buka puasa on time with their families too. Additionally, they are also extending their delivery times to 2am in Klang Valley so that people who are fasting can order food for sahur as well.

It doesn’t hurt to show a little appreciation to others sometimes! It may not look like much but for someone else, it can be a truly heartwarming experience!
