It’s very unfortunate that we all live in a world that judges you based on your appearance, thus leading to a lot of people developing eating disorders. People are quick to pass remarks, whether someone is good looking or not, or maybe their body size isn’t ideal enough etc.
Well, one bold 20-year-old girl from Sabah breaks the common beauty standard and she did it by auditioning for Miss Universe Malaysia 2018.
You see, Evita Patcey Edgar Delmundo is not like most girls. She was born with moles all over her body. Besides looks, what sets her apart is her confidence and love for her own skin, never letting how she looked put her down.
Having a unique appearance to most people, you can imagine how hard it must’ve been growing up. The Rungus-Filipino mix recently revealed to Elle MY that it was indeed a fact.
“It definitely wasn’t easy for me. I got bullied in primary school and the other kids would call me names like ‘Monster’ or ‘Chipsmore’, which was really tough to swallow as a young girl. I was really timid and I shied away as I didn’t know how to deal with it all. In fact, I’ve even asked my dad to come to the school to scold the mean kids!
“Luckily, the bullying lessened later on. It was when I attended a church camp at the age of 16 that I really learned how to love myself and communicate with others. This was probably the first time I truly started accepting who I was, how I look.”
Of course, her young self thought about removing the moles before, but eventually she went against it.
“After seeking advice from doctors, I learned that it could be a risk to my health. So I just had to accept that this is the body I’ve been given. But now I’m grateful I didn’t change anything.”
Evita aspires to be a beauty queen, and she’s not going to let anything stand in her way. She revealed that if she doesn’t get selected to be part of Miss Universe Malaysia 2018, she’ll still enter other beauty pageants because she wants to showcase her newfound confidence being in her own skin and inspire others to do the same. We need more people like her!
We definitely wish a big good luck to Evita and hope she’ll get selected for Miss Universe Malaysia 2018!
