In the latest budget 2023 announcement, finance minister, Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz has mentioned that with the increase of scam cases in Malaysia, the government will allocate RM73 million in hopes of decreasing scam cases.
Here’s what you can expect
- A total budget of RM73 will be allocated to CyberSecurity Malaysia to help upgrade monitoring, detection, and cyber forensics.
- A National Scam Response Centre that involves, PDRM, BNM, NFCC, and financial institutions will be set up.
- One-Time password (OTP) usage that are sent through text for higher risk transactions will no longer be used by banking institutions.
- A platform will be created for the public to report any sort of online scam cases.
- Government to spread more awareness regarding digital literacy to decrease online scam victims.
- A bill to protect credit card users will be proposed nearing the second quarter of 2023.
