Yes, with inflation ongoing and the increase of rising living costs, we cannot expect everything to be cheap. But how much would you pay for certain things, such as for a glass of chrysanthemum tea?

Just recently, a Malaysian shared her shocking experience in a Facebook group and said that she was taken aback by the price of 4 glasses of chrysanthemum tea – RM24. The price was not inclusive of a 10% service charge and a 6% of service tax, which brought the total bill to RM27.85.

This took place at a Dim Sum restaurant in Kuchai Lama, KL during the 2nd day of CNY, and keep in mind that the woman did not order any food.

“We were only told that they didn’t have much food left when we sat down,” the woman said.

The woman initially prepared RM15 to pay for the tea as she did not expect the price to exceed the amount of cash that she had in hand.

“RM6 for a glass of chrysanthemum tea? Was the tea made out of gold?”

The woman also said that her mother suggested the place as she wanted to give it a try, all thanks to the feedback that she had seen online.

“We came all the way from Cheras, and no thanks. I might as well go back to Cheras for Dim Sum,” she said.

“This place isn’t that good”

Her post has received many reactions from netizens, who mostly agreed on the price.

“I haven’t been to this restaurant in a long time. You might want to leave after you notice their food preparation at the back.”

In a situation like this, it’s not uncommon for some people to say ‘you should cook at home instead if everything is too expensive for you’. In response to that, a netizen  justified the explanation of the woman.

“The service was indeed poor, based on her post. They were not told in advance that the food was mostly sold out. Also, RM27 for 4 glasses of tea, that’s ridiculously expensive.”

“I’ve been here once. Not really a fan of it, so I stopped going.”

Do you think RM6 for a glass of chrysanthemum tea is considered “daylight robbery?”
