With the whole pandemic going on, we all have been eagerly waiting for the Covid-19 vaccination to put an end to this never-ending situation.
However, according to The New Daily, it has been reported that six individuals have died in the final phase of the clinical trial of the Covid-19 vaccine that was developed by the United States (US) pharmaceutical company Pfizer and its German counterpart, BioNTech.
It was first revealed by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) hours before the United Kingdom (UK) became the first country to approve the use of the vaccine.
However, the mortality rate does not raise the issue of safety or effectiveness of the vaccine as it affects the general population at the same rate. Based on the 53-page report released on Wednesday, the vaccine was found to have a 95 per cent effectiveness in preventing Covid-19 infection.
Based on the same report, two individuals who did receive the vaccine during the trial period had died, while another four individual died too, but during the placebo stage.
“All deaths represent events that occur in the general population of the age groups where they occurred, at a similar rate,” the report said.
All in all, it is proven that the vaccine does have a 95 per cent effectiveness rate, at least seven days after the individual have received the second injection.
The data has also shown that the vaccine is effective at 52 per cent after the first dose. The report summarizes the effectiveness of the data in meeting FDA expectations for emergency use authorization.
