In Kelantan, you could make some money just by crying. Yes, you read that right.

In a viral TikTok post by @expo.kelantan.event, contestants on stage were seen “hard at work” to shed their tears, and some even burst out laughing during the attempt. The event is scheduled to run for 37 days, from January 17 until February 28.

The ongoing event at Pantai Irama in Bachok, Kelantan promises plenty of activities for visitors to discover, but one in particular that has been making rounds on social media is the crying competition. According to the post, the person who manages to cry with the most emotions gets to win RM500.

The host started counting down as a cue for the contestants to get ready, and both men and women participants tried their best to get emotional on stage and shed some tears. The host went around and made sure the audience could hear the contestants’ “sadness” by placing the microphone near them.

A sad melody was also played throughout the competition to make it an immersive experience for those on stage.
