Rapid KL conducted a women’s coach trial on the MRT (Kajang line) in the last quarter of 2023.

The latest news by Rapid KL concerning this is that the women’s coach will be extended to the MRT (Putrajaya line) starting this 8 April.

In their Facebook post, RapidKL mentions that the women’s coach will be in the middle of each train in the Putrajaya and Kajang Line, taking up half of coaches 2 and 3.

They also clarified that those who can use the women’s coach aren’t entirely just women; boys under the age of 12 who are being cared for by female guardians can use the coach as well.

In addition to that, people with disabilities and their caretakers can board ANY COACH on the train.

The women’s coach is easy to discern as it is indicated with a pink sticker on the station’s floors and doors.

According to the public transport company, the women’s coach initiative aims to enable safer and more comfortable journeys for women. They added that this initiative has also been successful in other countries.

Many netizens in the comments were asking why the women’s coach was in the middle of the train but not on either end, to that, Rapid KL says:

“The position of the Women’ Coach is the middle to align with the platform queue and to standardise train operational requirements at all stations.”
