A loud explosion-like sound involving a Rapid KL Kelana Jaya Line train, which went viral on Threads on Tuesday (30 June), was caused by a thin wire that became lodged in the system’s power supply, according to Rapid KL.
Videos of the incident circulated widely on Threads last night, with many commuters expressing concern after hearing the loud bang while the train was at Taman Jaya Station. The incident occurred at around 7:18 PM as Train No. 57 was travelling towards Putra Heights.
Affected train withdrawn from service

In a statement issued today (1 July), Rapid KL said investigations at the scene found that the melted wire was not part of the train or the railway infrastructure. Instead, the wire is believed to have become entangled in the power supply system, causing the small explosion sound.
As an immediate safety measure, the affected train was withdrawn from service. All passengers safely disembarked at the next station before continuing their journeys on another train, with no injuries reported.
Rapid KL stressed that the incident did not disrupt operations on the Kelana Jaya Line, with train services continuing as scheduled throughout the evening.

No damage reported
The operator added that preliminary inspections by its technical team found no damage to either the train or the track infrastructure between Universiti and Taman Jaya stations. The tracks were confirmed safe for continued operations.
A more comprehensive inspection was also carried out after service hours to ensure the rail system remained safe and fully operational.
Rapid KL thanked passengers for their patience and apologised for any concern caused by the incident, while reaffirming its commitment to maintaining the safety and reliability of its rail services.
