Living in Malaysia, we all know that VIPs get all the preferred treatment compared to us commoners. From beating long lines at PPVs to breaching SOPs just to travel out of state, this is another incident that may just grind your gears.
Accused of practicing preferential treatment, Masjid Putra came under social media fire when a VIP was allowed easy entry into the mosque, despite many others in the video being denied entry under the pretense that quota was ‘full’ for the day.
To show what took place during the Friday prayer congregation, a video of the incident was uploaded on social media.
After the video went viral, Masjid Putra explained that because of strict rules, the main gate will be closed once quota is reached, and those who turn up will not be allowed entry.
With the allocation of a 300-person capacity, they added that the number of people who turned up for Friday prayers that day far exceeded the current capacity allowed as some arrived as early as 11am.
This however did not explain why an attendee and his entourage who arrived at Masjid Putra in a luxury car was allowed entry when others were made to wait in a large crowd outside the gate.
People commented on the incident, saying that the late attendees was a VIP and his entourage, and accused the mosque for practicing double standards.
Let’s hope that incidences like this will not become a common practice amongst VIPs around the country. There is nothing wrong with waiting in line for your turn like everybody else.
