The amusing behaviour of a Proboscis monkey was recorded on video recently, showing the animal casually hitching a ride with a fishing boat in Sarawak to get to its destination.
The video, shared by Twitter user datukhensem has since gone viral, garnering over 1.6 million views and 19,100 likes.
In the video, the large-nose monkey endemic to Borneo can be seen sitting on the fishing boat, enjoying the ride with two men.
However, out of nowhere, the Proboscis monkey suddenly jumped into the river despite it being far away from the land.
This prompted one of the two men to say,
“Be patient, relax, we’re not there yet.”
The video then cuts to the monkey joining the two men again on the boat, but this time in a rather awkward position of holding onto a paddling stick as its body is in the river, with one of the men holding on to the other end.
The monkey then seemingly got tired or bored in the position and crawl onto the fishing boat again. Not for long though, as it again jumped into the river and tried to swim to the mangrove areas which is its natural habitat.
The fishing boat then slowed down and offered the monkey to continue hitchhiking a ride, which it gladly accepted again.

In a second video, the monkey can be seen safely reaching its destination in the mangrove area and leaving without saying goodbye to the two men.
Despite that, the two men stayed for a while to ensure that the monkey safely went back to its home.
