The current education syllabus has been the talk of the town, following the viral issue of a teacher who voiced out against it over the weekend.
The teacher also revealed that he risked being sacked from his job after being upfront about his view on the current syllabus.
While there are no official words about his fate, the Ministry of Education (MoE) has since responded to the matter and shed some light on how the current syllabus was set.
The Minister of Education, Datuk Radzi Jidin revealed that the current education syllabus, which has been applied since 2017 is the outcome of research and the suggestions of some teachers who are experts in the field.
Radzi also said that the current syllabus for primary school students is not something new and will be used until the end of this year, which will complete a cycle for the period of the syllabus. At the time of writing, MoE is currently re-evaluating the primary school syllabus given that the period of use is almost over.
Additionally, MoE also assured the people that they are open to all views and ideas from all parties, including teachers and parents themselves so that no one is left behind. This is important to determine the syllabus that will be used in the future.
“Education, not politics”
In the meantime, this syllabus issue which is going viral now is happening near the time of the next General Election, and political comments about the syllabus seem to be unavoidable. So, Radzi has a reminder to the people out there who tend to relate everything to politics,
“Don’t politicise this issue, considering this issue relates to the education of Malaysian students and this reminder goes to all parties.”
According to Astro Awani, he also highlighted that he has seen certain individuals and groups who is attempting to stir up political debates when it comes to the education system of the country.
