A viral video on Facebook shows a group of individuals chanting Zikir (ritual prayers) in a strange and loud manner, which has caused concerns on social media.
The video was initially shared by a Facebook user, Rizuwan Rosli, who said he spotted the group at the Muslim cemetery in Danau Kota, Setapak. Rizuwan initially thought the group was merely reciting regular prayers until he took a closer look, which sounded and looked like a form of worship to him.
Wangsa Maju District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Mohamad Lazim Ismail confirmed that PDRM had received a report regarding the incident, which is believed to have occurred at about 10.05 AM on Saturday (December 28).
Rizuwan has since removed the video, but it is still circulating on social media.
PDRM also said they had referred the matter to the Federal Territory Islamic Religious Department (JAWI) for further investigation.
The Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs), Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar, through a statement posted on Instagram, said he has taken note of the viral video and said his party had also instructed JAWI to conduct a detailed investigation into the incident.
In the meantime, he also welcomed the public to come forward with any relevant information that might be helpful to assist in the investigation.
“However, all parties are advised not to make any speculation regarding the incident,” he reminded the public.
Datuk Dr. Mohd Na’im also told the public to leave the matter for the authorities to investigate.
