Something extraordinary happened in Thailand recently after passengers on a boat near the country’s beautiful Phi Phi Islands in Krabi spotted a white whale swimming in the Andaman Sea.

As reported by Thailand-based publication The Nation, this might be the very first time that a white whale was spotted in Thai seas, as confirmed by Yutthapong Damsrisuk, chief of Hat Nopparat Thara-Mu Ko Phi Phi National Park.

Thanks to the shallow waters of the area, the white whale was visible to the boat passengers, with one of them, a foreign tourist, managing to capture the majestic creature on camera.

The video has since gone viral and was posted by The Nation on its official Facebook page below:

In the video, the white whale can be seen swimming near the boat before briefly going up to the surface. It then dived back into the sea and was no longer visible.

Yutthapong confirmed that he and his department were aware of the video, but officials couldn’t yet establish what species of white whale it was.

He further said that this was the first time a white whale was spotted in Krabi and possibly the first time such a species was spotted in Thailand.

Furthermore, Yutthapong had instructed park officials to check the location where the white whale was spotted and to warn tourist boats to move with caution in the area.
