After being approached by an influencer offering to promote their restaurant on social media for RM2,000, a popular Penang restaurant decided to turn the tables and use their own social media presence to promote small businesses that cannot afford to promote themselves.
Taking to their Facebook page, Nasi Kandar Sulaiman (NKS), who has amassed quite the following online due to their fun-loving and heartwarming posts, shared their decision to help small businesses through their platform after receiving the offer from the influencer.

They wrote, “I was moved to promote small vendors because recently, an influencer sent me a message telling me that if I wanted to promote NKS, they would impose a charge of RM2,000. They said they will post on TikTok, Facebook and Instagram. They even sent me their rate card.”
“For bigger businesses, perhaps they have no problems with paying the price. But, small business owners who trade by the side of the road or through stalls would definitely find it hard to pay up to RM2,000.”
How can small businesses afford that?
NKS also took into consideration how small businesses can provide delicious food and amazing services, but still experience losses when it comes to their revenue.
Hence, they merely want to share the love they’ve received online by assisting small businesses in gaining the public’s attention through their social media.

“Pity the small business owners who do not earn much. There are some small businesses who serve tasty food and offer great service, but still experience decline in sales. So, how are they going to pay influencers up to RM2,000?”
“So, that is why I am making the move to provide free promotions to small businesses. I think this is among the reasons why Allah has made my page popular. So, I will try to use my page to help small businesses. InsyaAllah,” they added.
They also included an image of a small Ayam Penyet vendor located in front of the Rope Walk Guest House in Penang, and invited the public to patronise the stall.
Malaysians have since praised NKS’s effort.Ā

“May Allah bless the sustenance of the NKS team. It’s true, these small businesses’s sales are often just enough to make ends meet. To invest in advertisements and videos, of course many cannot afford.”

“Even this is a form of charity. It’s a different method and it’s shaped differently. You’re using the strength of your success and the many followers you have to help small businesses who cannot afford to strengthen their digital promotions and presence. Masyallah. May NKS continue to progress.”

“You are amazing! Yes, within our blessings, there are also blessings for others.”
