Earlier, the PAS Information Chief came under heavy fire on social media after posting about the resolution of the ongoing Thailand-Cambodia conflict.

The Pasir Mas MP had shared an image showing a goat and a sheep fighting over a banana, with a monkey sitting in as the judge.

“Our own opposition chooses to respond with sarcasm”

According to a social media post by Ahmad Fadhli Shaari, he wrote that “the goat and sheep shouldn’t need a monkey to mediate their fight over a banana”.

The post sparked backlash, with the Political Secretary to the Finance Minister, Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim, urging Ahmad Fadhli to issue a public apology to the people of Thailand and Cambodia.

“This isn’t about party lines or individual politics, it’s about national dignity. Malaysia plays a respected role as a regional leader. While the world, from the United States President to the Chinese President and the wider ASEAN community, welcomes this peace initiative, our own opposition chooses to respond with sarcasm and pessimism,” he said.

“This isn’t about party or individual politics”

In a Facebook post, Kamil stressed that Malaysia’s role as a mediator between the two warring nations wasn’t driven by politics or tied to any one party.

He went on to criticise Ahmad Fadhli’s remarks, pointing out that Malaysia (particularly the Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim) played a key role in helping Thailand and Cambodia agree to a ceasefire through diplomatic channels.

Kamil later highlighted that this is about Malaysia’s standing as a respected regional leader.

“This is exactly the kind of narrow-minded politics we reject. We can’t allow toxic voices like these to damage our country’s reputation.”

“What’s worse is that the criticism isn’t coming from outsiders, but from opposition leaders at home, people who seem more eager to see failure than to acknowledge a proud national achievement.”
