A building swarming with police is usually thought of as one of the safest places to be, which is what makes this robbery extra shocking!

On the morning of February 21, a policewoman had her handbag stolen by a motorcyclist outside the Police Cooperatives Building near Kampung Attap.

According to The Star, the 59-year-old victim, who is a Sergeant, had been talking to someone on the phone, when the thief sped past from the back and snatched her handbag from her right shoulder. The full incident can be seen in footage obtained from a close by CCTV, below:

It all happened so quickly! Fortunately, the policewoman was not physically hurt in any way. After it happened, passersby were alerted to the theft when she screamed out. However, the thief was already long gone by then.

Due to the pace at which the incident took place, the victim was unable to make out the number plate of the motorcycle nor the face of the suspect. However, Dang Wangi OCPD Asst Comm Shaharuddin Abdullah has said that as there are CCTV cameras in the area of the incident, more footage can be analysed for further action.

All in all, the victim lost RM50 in cash, her I.C., and various other cards, as reported by China Press. Thank goodness she did not have more cash on her at the time! ACP Shaharuddin has also issued a message urging all those with information to contact the police hotline at 03-21159999 or visit a police station nearby.

You can never be too careful, even in broad daylight! May the thief be caught soon, so that we will have one less threat roaming these streets!
