PN ADUN Lodges Police Report Over Certain Parties Turning His Mistake on Suspect’s Ethnicity into Racial Issue

Previously, a 41-year-old woman was arrested after she went up to the main stage and approached the Perak ruler, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, during the state-level National Day 2025 celebration.

Following the incident, Manjoi assemblyperson (ADUN) Hafez Sabri  went viral for falsely claiming in a now-deleted Facebook post that the woman who rushed the stage and tried to hug the Perak ruler was Chinese.

“My post was manipulated by irresponsible parties”

Criminal Investigation Department (JSJ) Director Datuk M. Kumar clarified that the suspect arrested was a local Malay woman.

“The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) reminds the public that strict action will be taken against anyone who spreads false statements that cause unnecessary fear or disrupt harmony in Malaysia,” he said.

Hafez has since issued a public apology and asserted that his original post had been manipulated by irresponsible parties.

He explained that the mention of a specific race in his post was corrected just minutes after it was uploaded, once he realised the initial information he received was inaccurate.

“I know that breaking security rules can’t be justified, no matter a person’s skin colour. My concern was only for the safety of His Royal Highness the Sultan of Perak. I apologise for my mistake, I’m only human and not free from error,” he said.

“I never brought up race or ethnicity”

Hafez said that even though he had already corrected his post, some people were quick to take screenshots of the original and spread it around to make it look like he was playing the race card.

“I never brought up race or ethnicity when questioning how the incident happened. What I highlighted was the need to strengthen the Sultan’s security. It’s clear these people had bad intentions because they only shared the first version of my post, even though I corrected it right away,” he explained.

He added that certain parties were also trying to stir up racial tensions by deliberately twisting his words. He has since lodged a police report over the spread of those screenshots.
