In his first address as the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced the purchase of an additional six million doses of the Covid-19 vaccine to ensure that the goal of herd immunity is achieved immediately.

According to the Prime Minister, the success of the vaccination program has been proven when the daily cases in the Federal Territory of Labuan have dropped to one figure in seven consecutive days. He elaborated, as reported by Awani,

“The latest figures on Friday, August 20, 2021, proved the effectiveness of the past strategy when the daily case statistics of the Federal Territory of Labuan, which has reached 90 per cent adult group immunity, have dropped consistently to one digit for seven consecutive days. This does not mean we will be completely free of the COVID-19 threat. But once we achieve herd immunity, the virus is no longer the threat it is now.

In this regard, to catalyze the achievement in Labuan, the additional six million doses of vaccines will be received by early September 2021, and this can be taken as good news to all in conjunction with our Independence Month. Together we are hopeful that our country will finally be able to overcome the troubles of the pandemic.
