Photos: The Once Bustling Hatyai Is Now Akin To A “Barren, Deserted Land”
Most of us have probably heard of the town Hatyai in Southern Thailand. Be it from your friends or your family members, they would have recounted their shopping experience there.
With just a few weeks before 2021’s Chinese New Year, the town is supposed to be booming with life, tourists and business transactions, especially in their marketplace. However, this unprecedented year has brought about an unprecedented change.
In a series of photos that have gone viral on Facebook, we see the once-bustling town almost completely deserted.
PKP Hari Ke-323: Suasana bandar Hatyai kini selepas hampir 10 bulan sempadan ditutup umpama padang jarak padang…

This post has been shared a total of more than 2,800 times as of the time of writing. Joey, who is a Malaysian residing in Thailand has shared that after 10 months of the Malaysian-Thailand border being closed, Hatyai is now akin to a “barren, deserted land”.
Speaking to World of Buzz, Joey said that he took those photos at the most popular spot which is Lee Gardens at about 8.30pm which is usually peak hour. Only one roadside stall is operating in front of Lee Gardens while the other stores are closed. The other stalls along the road and next to Odean seem to have disappeared as well. While the 7-Elevens, Watsons and foot massage parlours are closed.
This is certainly a sad sight to see. What are your thoughts on this? Let us know in the comments.
