Just a few days ago, the viral video of a police officer in the Philippines who brutally shot dead a mother and her son in Paniqui, Tarlac, sparked rage among people from all over the world.

It has been reported by Inquirer.net that the police officer, Senior Master Sergeant Jonel Nueza, avoided prosecution for two homicides last year and still managed to keep his badge.

According to the data that has been released to the media from the Police Regional Office in Central Luzon, Nueza had previous administrative cases in the Philippine National Police (PNP).

The data showed that Senior Master Sergeant Jonel Nuezca had been previously investigated for cases of grave misconduct for homicide back in May and December 2019.

However, both were dismissed for lack of substantial evidence.

Not only was he investigated for homicide before, but also the prosecution of a drug case.

Back in 2016, Nueza faced an admin case for serious neglect of duty for failing to attend a court hearing for the prosecution of a drug case. However, the case too was dropped and closed.

In 2014, he faced a case for less grave neglect of duty for refusing to take a drug test and leaving the testing area without permission or clearance from inspectors of the National Police Commission on April 8 that same year. He was only sanctioned with 31 days of suspension.

In another case back in 2013, he was investigated for an administrative case of grave misconduct but the case was dropped and closed as well.

Philippine National Police (PNP) chief General Debold Sinas said in a press briefing on Monday in Camp Crame that he was considering an anger management programme for police personnel.

Sinas expressed saying he was “angry and saddened that our policemen committed such crime” after watching the viral video that has been circulating all over social media.

Sinas also added on to say that in this new case, the evidence against him is strong. Hence, he was detained, disarmed and was issued a leave of absence so that his salary would be cut.

Nuezca surrendered himself on Monday to the Paniqui police and now is facing charges for double-homicide.
