Certain eateries in Malaysia have started to offer “Menu Rahmah” to ease the burden of low-income customers. If you’re both a Penangite and a fan of Nasi Kandar, then this is for you.

Restoran Hameediyah, the oldest Nasi Kandar restaurant in Penang will be serving Menu Rahmah from 1st March onwards, making it the first Nasi Kandar restaurant in Malaysia to dish out the menu. Their RM5 menu will consist of rice with gravy, vegetables and chicken or beef, including a glass of syrup.

RM5 for these dishes is basically impossible these days, and fortunately, Restoran Hameediyah, which is located in Lebuh Campbell is making it possible soon.

But is Menu Rahmah available all day long?

According to Muhammad Salim Ahamed Seeni Pakir, the manager of the restaurant, the menu will be served every day for 5 hours only.

“It will be served from 5 pm until 10 pm, for both dine in and takeaway,” Salim said.

Salim added that for the Menu Rahmah initiative, a total of 15 chickens and 8 kilograms of beef will be used every day.

“When it comes to costing, the actual price is RM8.50, but we’re introducing the Menu Rahmah to help the B40.”

Salim added that a similar menu was also served back in 2020 during the first MCO, at the price of RM6. Back then, the menu was also well received by the customers. While many may be excited about their upcoming Menu Rahmah, Salim has a reminder for all:

“We’re targeting the B40 for this menu, so let them have the chance to enjoy Menu Rahmah.”

According to reports by Malaysia Gazette and New Straits Times, when asked about profits, Salim said the chances are slim. Regardless, what matters to them is the ability to provide a decent meal for the B40 to fill their stomach.

Are you excited that Restoran Hameediyah in Penang is introducing Menu Rahmah? Do you think it will help a lot of low-income customers?
