This might relate to our fellow friends in the F&B field. If there are losses, as an employee, you are expected to make up for the losses, and that was what happened to one of the waiters at a seafood restaurant in Butterworth, Penang.

In a Facebook post recently, the seaside restaurant, Lobster Village Seafood Food Court revealed that 3 different guests from 3 different tables did not pay their bills. Based on the receipts, all 3 guests visited the restaurant on Saturday (February 25), and the unpaid bills are NOT cheap.

“Guests from table 11, table 5, and table 34, in case you have forgotten to pay your bills, and when you remember, please do pay us. 3 tables gone in just a day, this is too much,” the Facebook post said.

Here’s how much the bills cost.

  • Table 11 (RM397)
  • Table 34 (RM218)
  • Table 5 (RM108)

Do the simple math and the total loss that the waiter had to bear was RM723!

The employee who was in charge of the tables said,

“I’m just a small time employee here, and I’m about to get my pay deducted for this.”

At the time of writing, the restaurant has yet to update anything about the bills being settled by the customers. Do you think they may have forgotten about the bills? Sounds too impossible to happen?

Well, the restaurant revealed in the comment sections and said that in the past, they have seen customers who actually forgot to pay their bills and contacted them again at the night to settle the bill. The restaurant also clarified that on Saturday night, it rained suddenly.

“Judging from those receipts, the customers have been there for more than an hour. Perhaps they left due to the rain and forgot about the bills.”

“This is unfair for you waiters”

Malaysians, on the other hand, did not think that the guests from those 3 tables have forgotten their bills.

“Eat without paying, I hope they get diarrhoea for 100 days.”

Another netizen pointed out that it was unfair to deduct the worker’s salary for such an incident.

“Why does your pay have to be deducted? When business is not doing well, are you guys expected to suffer the loss with the boss?”

Another netizen said that he’s sharing the post in hope that it will reach the customers who may have forgotten their bills.

“This is too much. The customer’s blunder caused the waiter to see a deduction in his pay.”

“It’s probably the case where ‘I thought that person has paid,” that person thought another person has paid.”

Forgotten or not, we do hope that these customers reach out to the waiter soon and settle the bill!
